The gun goes off and after a strong start you are now approaching the final bend before the home straight. The finish line is there and you can feel the other runners hot on your heels.
This is how the final quarter of the year can feel for a number of companies, including ours. So to ensure you make a strong finish across the line into 2017, I’ve culled the most popular advice from our blog posts and articles from the past six months to produce 10 ways you can bolster your brand in 2016.
10. Learn a new skill
If you aren’t learning, you’re not standing still; you’re falling behind. Identify the single most important skill you would like to learn or improve (public speaking, social media, strategic planning, etc.) and commit to a development plan. First, see what’s available through your company’s training and development team. If you're self employed then jump on websites like lynda.com or Udemy. Then seek out the learning you need and make sure you put it into your calendar. Learning a new skill is one of the three things that will make you happy – as I wrote in this piece.
9. Document your wins
In a world where we spend a lot of time crossing things off our to-do list and then immediately moving to the next item, it might feel foreign or indulgent to step back and take some time to acknowledge your accomplishments. However, that pause and acknowledgement is a powerful fuel for increasing productivity. Find a familiar place where you can record and collect your top daily wins, whether that be a diary or spreadsheet.
8. Get your web on
There was a time when having your own real-estate on the web was overkill, but competition is increasing. Having your own web site allows you to showcase your brand your way so you can stand out from others who seek to achieve the same goals.
7. Join a LinkedIn group
This is by far the best opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals on a wide scale and expand your visibility. Some groups have tens or hundreds of thousands of members.
6. Ask questions
One recurring theme in my previous posts has to do with questions. There are two kinds of questions to integrate into your habits for 2016. The first category is questions to ask yourself so you can get clear on your personal brand. Here are my top three questions to ask here. The other type comes from incorporating coaching skills into your leadership style.
5. Request a recommendation
Self-glorification is not credible glorification. Personal branding is more about having others toot your horn for you. Reach out to a manager or a business partner from the past who can help you validate what you say about yourself. Then, take the time to return the favour by proactively recommending someone from your past.
4. Write a Medium Blog
When Medium introduced their long-form blogging feature, they unleashed your most powerful personal branding platform. There is no longer a need for you to maintain a separate blogging site. And best of all, Medium has a rising audience of more than 30 million people who are potential viewers of your written brilliance.
3. Become a storyteller
